About This Quote

"We should never, ever believe life or history holds no surprises for us. That was lies arrogance. And arrogance can blind us to the truth." This quote from her novel,  "The Kite Runner,"  is a powerful piece of writing about the consequences of holding on to your own narrow definition of what is truth.

In this case, Khaled Hosseini tells the story of a young boy in Afghanistan who loves a boy who is in love with a girl who is in love with a boy. When the boy in love with a girl dies in a tragic accident, he believes that his life is over and that he has lost everything that mattered to him. He believes that there will never be any happiness in his life again.

He also believes that he is alone in the world. In the face of this tragedy, however, he is embraced by his family and community and is given the opportunity to live again. The boy returns to living his life and being happy, not realizing that there are still people out there who love him and miss him and would do anything to see him happy again.
